International. Creative. Adaptable. Citizens of the World.
The Montessori School of Greater Hartford, established in 1964, serves children ages 15 months-15 years in a welcoming, independent school setting.
MSGH is accredited by the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) and is recognized by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), the highest accrediting body for Montessori education worldwide. All MSGH teachers have completed their AMI training, placing them among the most finely trained professionals in the Montessori field.
Our Mission: "The Montessori School of Greater Hartford fosters a strong foundation for confident, compassionate participation in the world by nurturing each child's unique gifts, passion for learning, and independence. As a community, we enrich families, live our diversity, and embody the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) standards of excellence."
Our Programs Toddler Program. MSGH has half-day (8:30-11:30), full day (8:30-3:00) and all day (8:30-5:30) programs designed for children ages 15 months-3 years. The Toddler program focuses on nurturing independence, language and practical life skills in a supportive, loving community. Our toddlers thrive in our Spanish bilingual immersion environments.
Primary Program. Children in our Primary program range from 2.5-6 years in age and thrive in a highly social, cooperative community. Students are actively guided by the teacher as they learn at their own pace, exploring many subject areas including practical life, language, math, history, geography, science, Spanish, music and art. The Montessori approach to the teaching of reading, writing and math, specifically, are very highly regarded, and the nature of the Montessori materials ensures that all learning is done by engaging the child's senses.
Botany, zoology, science and language are brought to life in the classroom gardens. Third-year children enjoy monthly field trips to augment what they are learning in the classroom.
Elementary Program. MSGH's Lower and Upper Elementary programs are designed for children ages 6-9 and 9-12. Students work daily both individually and in small groups, supporting their development of teamwork, self-management and interpersonal skills. Spanish, art, music and physical education are fully integrated into the curriculum and service projects allow students to engage frequently with the local community.
Adolescent Programs. Our Middle school program is located in the Nepaug section of New Hartford, CT on the peaceful. 30-acre Millstream Farm. Our program follows an authentic approach to Montessori education centered on rigorous academic studies and purposeful, land-based work that emphasizes the interconnectedness of all academic subjects.
Additional Programming: Summer, Winter & Spring Recess, Early Morning Drop-off and Afternoon Programming are available.
