The Williams School is a tight-knit community fostering each student’s academic career alongside arts and athletic involvement. An independent, college preparatory day school located on the campus of Connecticut College, students in grades 6-12 hail from more than 40 communities in Connecticut, Rhode Island and China.
The School’s mission is to foster the intellectual, moral, aesthetic, and physical development of young women and men in preparation for college, a lifetime of learning, and active participation in a changing society.
A dedicated and engaging faculty is committed to developing innovated approaches to teaching tailored to their students. Williams is committed to small class sizes, making a close connection between students and teachers. This is further developed through advising groups, where faculty mentor students through their academic course selection and provide social guidance. In addition to these close relationships the school employs two highly qualified College Counselors to guide students through the college search and application process.
Beyond the rigorous and engaging academic coursework, The Williams School offers a broad range of extracurricular experiences. The arts program at Williams seeks to engage students in an individualized creative process. Students can expand upon their coursework in Music, Theatre, and Dance in extracurricular productions. Compchorea is an annual hallmark of the arts program, encouraging students to work together to compose music and choreograph dance works in cooperative collaboration. Another opportunity for team cooperation is with three seasons of athletic offerings. The athletic program at Williams provides students with opportunities at the Varsity, Junior Varsity and Middle School levels. The newly constructed Athletic Complex provides miles of backcountry running trails and two soccer and lacrosse fields for practice and competition. In addition to these formal programs the school offers a variety of clubs and committees, most popular being the Service Committee engaging the student body in school-wide events and offering over 20 service opportunities each year. Examples of popular clubs are: Aerospace Club, Gender and Sexuality Alliance, Harvard Model Congress, and Yale Model UN.
