It was five years in the making, but well worth the wait. Jonathan's Dream Reimagined, and all-inclusive playground in West Hartford, was rededicated and opened on Sunday, October 22.
The original Jonathan's Dream playground, built on Zachs Campus of the Mandell Jewish Comununity Center in 1996, was developed in memory of Jonathan Peter Barzach, who died from complications of spinal muscular atrophy when he was 9 months old. The wooden playground, also featuring inclusive equipment, was torn down in 2012 because of wear and tear.
The new 25,000-square-foot playground includes swings with supports, a treehouse play area and a wheelchair-accessible basketball court designed by Kevins Kourts, an organization run by UConn's Kevin Ollie. Kevin's Kourts builds inclusive basketball courts across Connecticut.
